The bridge, which is being widened to two lanes, was only a single lane, which meant motorists approaching from both ends had to stop and negotiate who past through first.
Canterbury Bankstown Mayor Khal Asfour joined Cumberland Council Mayor Lisa Lake and Councillor Rachelle Harika (pictured) to inspect the project and see how works were coming along.
“Work on the new bridge is already underway and when complete, will allow for two-way traffic lanes, a shared pedestrian and cycle path,” Mayor Asfour said.
“It is a joint investment which will improve safety for all the community.”
Cr Harika said the upgrade had been talked about for years by locals and it was great to see the bulldozers evenutally hit the ground.
“The days of waiting for cars to cross, one by one, will soon be over,” she said.
