After a long battle, which included the formation of the Henry Lawson Drive-Pozieres Intersection Action Group, residents will finally get a red light camera at the intersection of Henry Lawson Drive and Pozieres Avenue.
The news came days after a large crowd of residents and families gathered at the intersection for the National Walk Safe to School Protest Rally.
Committee member John Grinsell said they were very happy with the decision which will “certainly improve safety, crossing the road at the lights and reduce red light runners”.
Fellow committee member, Valerie Stuart-Grant, says the intersection is “the most dangerous piece of roadway in our suburb – for both motorists and pedestrians, but particularly for the primary school-aged children who have to cross it in peak traffic periods twice every school day”.
To help drive home the importance of road and pedestrian safety, Mr Grinsell said pedestrians also needed to do their bit and encouraged people crossing at lights to do it safely.
Roads Minister Natalie Ward says Transport for NSW is also liaising with the NSW Police Force requesting that the Highway Patrol provide additional enforcement at this intersection to ensure that all road users are obeying the road rules.
