Relax half-hour rule on hair appointment

MOST of Canterbury Bankstown’s brave hairdressers and barbers are soldiering on with or without their staff, despite business taking a hit during the Covid-19 crisis

The Parlour for Hair owner Anne Daizli is hugely relieved the 30-minute rule has been overturned.
“It’s just so good as very difficult to do anything in half an hour,” she said.
“We’re still disinfecting after each customer and are spacing everyone out and limiting the number of customers at any one time.”
Bankstown Barber Salon in Kitchener Parade, Bankstown, have their doors open for now but say business has dropped dramatically.
“We’re doing all of the safety precautions by limiting numbers, using hand sanitisers,” owner Sam Kandakji said.
Likewise, George Gia of GIA Hair in Selems Parade, Revesby, is still at work but left it up to his staff whether they wanted to continue at the moment.
“The staff always come first and because they felt they could be at risk, have all finished work; as the owner, I feel obligated to be here and want to be loyal to my customers who I value greatly,” he said.
“It’s a huge relief the 30-minute appointment has been relaxed and I have all the safety procedures in place here.”
Hair in the Square at Bankstown Central is limiting business to four clients at a time.

“It’s a big salon so that is not a problem,” owner Sam Kannaan said.
“Now we can do foils and colours, not just wash and blow dries,” he said.
Oo-La-La Ladies Hair Salon in South Terrace, Bankstown, says though business has dropped off, there is still turnover.
“We need to keep customers moving quickly,” owner Gina Gharibeh said.
To Be Hair Skin & Body Padstow owner Jo has reduced her customers to Wednesdays and Saturdays by appointment only.
“I think it’s great the Government is allowing hair salons to stay open as it’s good for people’s mental health; it you look good, you feel good,” she said.
“We all have to take precautions but expecting anyone in the industry to do a full wash and cut in under half an hour was ridiculous.”
