Reject pedestrian crossing bid at school but will erect signage

‘CHILDREN crossing’ warning signs will be installed on Gillivers Place and Mills Street in Lidcombe to improve the safety of students.

In a request to Cumberland Council for a marked pedestrian crossing outside the school back gate, Lidcombe Public School claimed that the lack of crossing facilities in that location was posing a potential risk to students.
However, Cumberland Council said that a study of traffic and pedestrian movements in those areas found that the numbers didn’t justify the need for a marked pedestrian crossing, but would install ‘Children crossing’ warning signs on both streets.
