Red Cross sale as PCC launches appeal

WITH children’s clothing starting from as little as 50c up to $5, families are invited to make the most of the mega winter sale at Padstow Red Cross this Saturday (June 22).

On offer from 9am-3pm at 13 Howard Road, Padstow, the sale will also include a range of adult clothing, shoes and books plus sheets, doonas, crocheted rugs and kitchen items.
Padstow Red Cross Liaison Officer Marilena Mattiolo said it was a great opportunity to pick up a few needed items for winter.
“There’s so many wonderful bargains to be had to suit any budget so families should definitely head down here and check out our treasures,” she said.
“We are also on the hunt for more volunteers so if you can spare a few hours a week, please let us know when you drop in on Saturday.”
Meanwhile Padstow Community Care (PCC) is battling to keep up with the demand for blankets, food and power bill support.
Launching its Winter Appeal for cash donations which are fully tax deductible, manager Grant Heslop said funds would be used to pay for subsidised food from Foodbank and cheap yet quality heaters from the Bing Lee in Bankstown, as well as blankets, sheets and doonas.
“We will then sort the goods into hampers and distribute to whom we identify as needing that extra bit of help over the colder months,” Grant explained, adding that the rise in homelessness was very concerning.
“A lot of the homeless are hidden and if they’re not sleeping in their cars, they are heading into the city at night and sleeping with larger homeless groups for safety but then come back here during the day.
“Your generosity will be the source of warmth for many families and individuals that are struggling to survive this winter.”
