THE Lebanese Muslim Association has turned back the clock with a remarkable resurgence in numbers at recent special events at Lakemba Mosque.
Distinguished guest speakers, well known within the Muslim community, have been the driving force behind the revival, attracting huge crowds eager to listen and learn.
The huge attendances are a throwback to the kind of audiences that were commonplace at the Wangee Road venue two decades ago.
Australia’s most iconic and largest, Lakemba Mosque welcomed highly respected international speaker Sheikh Abu Bakr Zoud recently with over 1,300 worshippers eager to listen to the Imam.
Similarly, the appearance last week of popular motivational speaker Mohamed Hoblos saw a staggering 2,800 predominantly young attendees on hand.
With a combined turnout surpassing 4,200, these events underscore the potency of exceptional guest speakers and post-event interactions in fostering communal unity.
Well known community figure Ahmad Hraichie said they hadn’t seen these numbers at Lakemba Mosque special events for well over 20 years.
“For me, these two nights have brought back fond memories of growing up here and attending special events at Lakemba Mosque in my youth,” he said.
Esteemed Imam Sheikh Omar El-Ghaz will next address youth after Ishaa prayer on Friday, September 1, from 7pm.
Sheikh Omar works for the United Muslims of Australia (UMA), where he heads the Dawah Department which has over 20 initiatives serving the community.
