Regent Park’s Zoha Aslam is one of the high-scoring graduates who studied a Certificate IV in Tertiary Preparation (TPC) and received a Tertiary Entrance Score of an ATAR equivalent of at least 97.
According to Jobs and Skills Australia, over the next 10 years, more than nine out of 10 new jobs expected to be created, will require post-secondary qualifications.
“I was at a point where I couldn’t go to school and I was finding it hard to do anything with my life, but I knew I had to do something so I enrolled at TAFE NSW,” Zoha said.
“It was really flexible and it gave me time to deal with other things that I was going through. It also let me take control of my education and I think that’s why I was able to succeed.
“I’ve applied to study Paramedicine at the University of Western Sydney.”
Auburn’s Caner Koksal was another high achieving student who said as a teen he wasn’t interested in going to university.
“I didn’t attempt an ATAR at school, but I did study a Diploma of IT after school which I really enjoyed,” he said.
“In the years following I became interested in medicine, so I decided to go back to TAFE NSW to get an ATAR.
“I’m also interested in studying Law and I’ve had a few offers from universities, but I think I will sit the UCAT exam next year to see if I can get into undergraduate medicine.
“Studying at TAFE NSW was really enjoyable, the teachers create a really safe environment where students can succeed without any unnecessary pressure. To anyone considering doing their TPC at TAFE NSW, I’d say go for it.”
