Ready to splash out

WITH members ranging in ages from three years to 69, Merrylands Amateur Swimming Club is celebrating its 53rd season with club races starting back this Saturday from 7am.

Amateur swim club gets ready to make a splash

Club President Graham Edwards said swimming was one of the most popular sports for Active Kids voucher redemption last season – number one for females and second for males across the Cumberland LGA – and the club’s Learn to Swim program would make a splash again in early 2022.
“Our club started in 1968, the same year that the Merrylands Swimming Centre opened, and we have a very diverse membership across age, gender and cultural backgrounds reflecting the local community,” Edwards said.
“Covid-19 has impacted our club, as it has affected the whole community and it has been over six months since our members have been able to enjoy a swim until now.
“We are very excited to start our season this coming Saturday.
“Swimming is an important part of the Australian sporting and leisure landscape and our club offers a range of swimming activities including club races, and squad training as well as Learn to Swim.”
