Range of activities, support for all ages

OFTEN the first place people turn to when they are having difficulties, Coolaburoo Neighbourhood Centre CEO Rosanna Umansky says they can’t fix every problem but they will most certainly know who can and will refer you to that service.

It was one of over 1,000 centres which celebrated the valuable role they perform in the community during Neighbourhood Centre Week (May 8-14).
Shining a spotlight on their great work, Rosanna said every day was different and a busy one.
From family outings to Berry markets, taking young mums to upcycling events, managing the senior pen pals program with now over 100 taking part and hosting Twilight Sport for youth, to providing domestic violence counselling on a daily basis, Coolaburoo is a hive of daily activity.
“We really are the heartbeat of the local community,” Rosanna said.
The school holidays are also a busy time with a range of outings, including to the zoo, movies and even fruit picking.
Weekly activities include the AA support group, friendship group, Boomerang Bag sewers group, mosaics groups, carer support group and even historic home tour group.
“We try to offer whatever the community needs or is interested in,” Rosanna said.
“We also provide a range of volunteer opportunities, encourage creativity, share culture and promote healthy living.”
