Ram’s spectacular ‘Try of the Year’ watched by millions

MERRYLANDS Rams U18s player Viliotu Masila has gone viral with a ridiculous full-field try for his team, catching the attention of viewers around the world

The young prop has amassed millions of views across social media for his sensational play.
In the opening play of a match, Masila flew off the back fence and stormed onto the ball from kick-off. Driving into the defence with pace and power, he left the opposition in his wake as he steamrolled through 10 players in a 100-metre sprint to the try line.
The try was originally viewed seven million times on the Parramatta Eels’ official TikTok page last year, reaching accounts in the USA, United Kingdom, France and many more countries.
The video made waves around the world, with reposts by YouTube, Instagram and X accounts taking it beyond 135 million views as it continues to circulate.
“A wall couldn’t stop this man if it tried,” wrote an X account user.
Another wrote: “Give this man an NFL contract.”
The play also won ‘Try of the Year’ at Parramatta Junior League Association’s 2023 Awards Night.
Contrary to his explosive playing style, the Merrylands High School student was shy and softly-spoken when asked about the try and his online stardom.
“I wasn’t really expecting to get there, I just went hard wanting to get as close as I could,” he said.
“It’s really crazy it’s gone viral, my teammates have been cracking jokes and when people bring it up, it makes me feel kind of shy, it was just another day.”
He said his dream was to land an NRL contract.
“Hopefully with the Parra Eels but we’ll see,” he said.
