Having approached the State Government for the past two years – “and being ignored” – Cumberland Mayor Steve Christou has written to the Premier seeking the immediate delivery of the centre and instigated a community petition calling for the same.
Residents can scan the QR code to sign the petition now.
However, a spokesperson for Minister for Customer Service, Victor Dominello, said they remained committed to delivering the new Merrylands Centre by June 2023.
Mayor Christou said residents should be able to go down to a Service NSW Centre to complete basic requests like re-registering their car or renewing their drivers licence, without having to drive 20-30 minutes to reach the nearest centre, in Parramatta, Lidcombe, Silverwater, Blacktown or Wetherill Park.
“This council needs another Service NSW Centre to replace the one that was taken away,” he said.
“We have previously resolved to make appropriate space available for it in the footprint of the Granville Administration Building. It is time that the NSW Government take us seriously on this important issue.
“This thing has been going on for too long. We actively want to work together with the State Government for the betterment of the community,” he said.
Ramps up bid to return Service NSW to centre
FIVE years after the Motor Registry at Merrylands was closed, Cumberland Council has ramped up its campaign to bring a new Service NSW Centre to the area.
