All for a good cause, the funds are being raised for this year’s MS Readathon after some students mentioned they had relatives who suffered from debilitating Multiple Scelerosis.
Mr Tuton said he thought it was a good challenge for the students, and one that they took up quickly, as they had never seen him without a beard (and nor has his 18-month-old daughter).
“To further support Chullora Public School, I contacted the Russ the Story Bus program run by the Sydney Writer’s Festive, where an author will talk to a cohort of students and give each a free book to encourage reading,” he said.
“By raising funds for the MS Readathon, our school is encouraging students to develop a passion for reading.”
Chullora Public School Principal Bahia Almir said it really resonated with the students when Mr Tuton told the students he was letting go of something he cared about for a bigger cause.
“They’re really excited to see him without his beard and certainly reading more, enjoying their visits to other worlds,” she said.
Raise cash to see beardless teacher
STUDENTS at Chullora Public School are on a mission like never before – raise $500 to see teacher Mark Tuton shave off his red ‘Ned Kelly’ beard or $1,000 to see him shave both his beard and head.
