Race on for seats

THE race is on for the seats of Auburn, Granville and Parramatta, with 17 candidates vying for votes at next Saturday’s State Election (March 25). 

LABOR has won the coveted top spot on the ballot paper for the Auburn and Parramatta electorates, while an Independent was the first name out of the box in Granville, with the countdown on to the State Election on Saturday, March 25.
Ballot draws for the election were held in each electorate last Thursday.
Six candidates put their hands up for Auburn, with Labor’s Lynda Voltz the first name out of the box, followed by Masoomeh Asgari (The Greens), Jamal Daoud (Australians United), Julie Morkos Douaihy (Liberal Democrats), Shelley Goed (Sustainable Australia Party – Stop Overdevelopment/Corruption) and Mohammed (Haseen) Zaman (Liberal).
In Granville, sitting candidate Julia Finn was third out of the box with six candidates vying for the seat.
First out of the box in Granville was Charbel Saad (Independent), followed by Janet Castle (The Greens), Julia Finn (Labor), Rohan Laxmanalal (Animal Justice Party), John Hadchiti (Liberal Democrats) and Anm Masum (Liberal).
Only five people have nominated for the seat of Parramatta, with Labor’s Donna Davis first, followed by Ben Hammond (The Greens), Katie Mullens (Liberal), Mritunjay Singh (One Nation), and David Moll (Sustainable Australia Party – Stop Overdevelopment/Corruption).
Your State electorate: Auburn – Auburn, Berala, Birrong, Lidcombe, Potts Hill, Regents Park, Rookwood, Silverwater; Granville – Granville, Guildford, Guildford West, Holroyd, Merrylands, Merrylands West, South Granville; and Parramatta – Auburn, Clyde, Granville, Lidcombe, Newington, Silverwater, Sydney Olympic Park, Wentworth Point.
If you are eligible to vote in person before election day, you can visit an early voting centre on Saturday, March 18, or from Monday, March 20, to Friday, March 24.
