They raised $373 by taking part in Jersey Day for State of Origin 2, wearing their footy tops to school and donating a gold coin and then a further $1,150.75 through donations at a Pyjama Day and Sleepout at the school at the end of Term 2.
Students were only given a cup of thin soup and a piece of bread for dinner at their sleepout, before their parents collected them about 7pm, so they could appreciate how little – or if at all – a homeless person might have to eat.
Sleepout organiser and Religious Education Coordinator and Kindergarten Teacher Andrea El-Tahan said the students also enjoyed a special visit from the Director of Religious Education and Evangelisation for Sydney Catholic Schools, Anthony Cleary, who this year raised over $20,000 taking part in his second CEO sleepout.
“He explained to the students that by taking part, it was his practical way of putting his faith into action, encouraging our school communities to do the same,” Ms El-Tahan said.
