OWN recognises that wellness is more than good diet and regular exercise.
In addition to physical health, OWN’s wellness model includes mental, social and emotional wellbeing, with a wide variety of classes suitable for women over 50 from all backgrounds and levels of fitness, to help them get more out of life.
Re-opening in term 4 on Monday, October 9, with classes on offer from Mondays to Wednesdays at Bankstown PCYC, corner Meredith Street and French Avenue, activities include: Line Dancing for beginners and improvers (what a fabulous fun way to exercise and improve our co-ordination, balance and memory); Strength exercises; Gentle Yoga; African Drumming; Health and Falls Prevention through Tai Chi; Ukulele for beginners and intermediate; Let’s Talk About (health and wellness discussion group); and Guided Relaxation (to quieten your inner self and find your way to a calmer, happier and relaxed you).
Costing $30 (PCYC annual fee) and $35 for each term where you can book for any or all activities, the wellness classes feature a supportive environment, according to co-ordinator Mary-Anne Blackburn.
“It’s a very welcoming atmosphere where everyone is accepted and valued,” she said.
“These classes are a fantastic opportunity for women to get out of the house, do something constructive for their well-being and make new friends,” she said.
