On Wednesday, he called on Cumberland Council to write to the Premier and relevant minister asking when the centre will be delivered as was promised during this year’s State election.
“Merrylands had a very busy RTA quite a few years ago, unfortunately that was closed down,” he said.
“People of Granville, Merrylands, Greystanes, they’re being affected. They are either having to travel to either Auburn or Parramatta. The queues are horrendous.”
Urging councillors to support writing to the Government, he said he hoped there would be an adequate response as to when the centre would be installed.
Cr Eddy Sarkis said he also remembered the promise from the losing Liberal candidate during the election.
He said while he supported the move, he wanted to know what representations the local State MPs had made on the issue, however Cr Ola Hamed said State MP for Granville, Julia Finn, had questioned the Government on the issue during budget discussions.
Acting general manager Brooke Endycott also confirmed that there had been “some discussions” with the Government about the proposed Service NSW Centre, with investigations “underway” to locate a suitable site within the Merrylands CBD.
