Purrfect fun for families on way

STARRING talented Revesby dancer Tracy Reid and narrator and Bangor resident Dan O’Connell, CATS is coming to the Rockdale Town Hall, from May 24 to June 1.

The Regals Musical Society and a cast of over 80 young performers will bring one of the longest running musicals in history, delighting thousands of people over the years on both Broadway and London’s West End, to the stage.
Featuring The Regals Musical Society and a cast of over 80 young performers (all under 18 and some as young as seven), the musical tells the story, in song and dance, of the annual gathering of the Jellicle Cats.
It is set among a larger-than-life junkyard playground, and is alive with purr-fect felines including Rum Tum Tugger, Mr Mistoffelees, Jennyanydots, Munkustrap, Old Deuteronomy, Growltiger, Skimbleshanks and Grizabella.
The Regals will be presenting an Abridged Edition of CATS, which has been re-imagined for a junior cast, and features selected popular songs by Andrew Lloyd Webber, including the smash hit ‘Memory’.

The Jellicle Cats come out to play on one special night of the year – the night of the Jellicle Ball. One by one they tell their stories for the amusement of Old Deuteronomy, their wise leader, who must choose one special cat to ascend to the Heaviside Layer and be reborn into a whole new Jellicle life.
The audience is transported to this magical world filled with enchanting songs and dance that will leave you wanting more.
Musical Director and local music teacher Julie Ryan said: “I am immensely proud of this production. These young minds have grabbed this challenge with both hands and the results speak for themselves.”
With so much feline activity, the Regals Musical Society have affiliated themselves with RSPCA NSW, with a portion of the show proceedings pledged to this wonderful organisation.
After most of the shows, some of the CATS characters will come out in their CATS costumes and make-up, to greet the audience.
Audience members, especially kids, can take photos of themselves with their favourite CATS character, to keep as a memory of the show.
There will also be a drawing competition for children who attend, with entrants encouraged to draw a picture of their favourite CATS character or a cat they know.
Tickets: Adults, $30, concession card holders, $25, and children 12 years and under, $20, from theregals.com.au.
