Property boom helps many enjoy retirement goal early

MANY over 55-year-olds are cashing in on Sydney’s escalating property prices as a way of achieving an earlier retirement.

For many, retirement villages are an increasingly attractive way of downsizing to an affordable home while enjoying the shared facilities and benefits of village life.
The latest offering is a new, three-storey building within Walter Skelton Village by Eventide Homes at Padstow Heights.
The not-for-profit provider will launch 18 new one, two and three-bedroom units in April.
Every apartment will feature spacious open plan lounge and dining and private alfresco areas.
Future minded residents will even be able to charge their electric vehicle at one of 15 charging stations already installed in the basement car park.
‘Jacaranda’, as the new addition will be named, is a long-awaited addition to the original Walter Skelton Retirement Village which was built entirely by volunteers in 1946 and comprises 47 studio, one and two-bedroom units.
Eventide Homes’ Rob McPaul says Sydney’s skyrocketing property prices are a boon for people looking to downsize.
“Selling the family home frees up cash for an improved lifestyle and relieves homeowners of worries around home maintenance,” he said.
“People’s housing needs often change as we grow older. The right housing can keep people safe and healthy, support them to in their continued independent lifestyle.”
Walter Skelton Village, 967 Henry Lawson Drive, Padstow Heights, will be hosting an Open Day on Saturday, April 30, between 10am and 4pm.
