MARKING the end of the Islamic holy month of Ramadan, the traditional Eid-Ul-Fitr Prayers were held at Lakemba Mosque last Friday morning,
Officials of the Lebanese Muslim Association (LMA), Australia’s oldest Islamic charitable organisation and owners of the Mosque, reported that the event attracted a crowd of close to 40,000 worshippers.
“The figure may well have been larger, with the mosque and underground area quickly filling to capacity from as early as 6am, which saw members of the congregation then use every available vantage point to pray including the car park – and as far along Wangee Rd as the eye could see,” a spokesperson said.
Well known political figures from the three tiers of government joined religious, business and community leaders as official guests, headed by NSW Premier Chris Minns and local federal and state members including Tony Burke (representing the Prime Minister), Jason Clare, Jihad Dib and Sophie Cotsis.
