Richard is one of a number of residents who have rolled up their sleeves and taken part in the council’s bushcare volunteer program, lending a hand to conserve the city’s natural environment.
“Our environment is a scarce resource, so it is crucial to take good care of it,” Mr Kolodzies said.
“Everything has a purpose in the environment and it is important to maintain what we’ve got.
“I’ve been a bushcare volunteer for over 15 years now, because it is rewarding to see improvements in the habitats I’ve worked on.
“Volunteering is one of those things that brings a sense of satisfaction.
Mayor Khal Asfour says today’s way of living can be harmful on the environment, which is why we must take added precautions to protect it.
“Volunteers are currently needed to help remove weeds, plant native vegetation and maintain wetlands in various areas.
“The more people who help, the more work we can get done – and that will ensure our local environment thrives.”
