Praise for young Stars over meteoric rise on field

GIVEN the challenge of putting together a girls team for Bankstown Sports Stars Football Club in 2019, Houda Hamze more than exceeded expectations and continues to kick goals.

With the club now featuring a girls team in every age group, Houda started out with a team of U12s coached by club president Frank Fruci, which reached the grand final two years later in 2021, won the grand final in 2022 and remain undefeated this year despite playing up an age group.
“They have done so well, I just couldn’t be prouder,” the club secretary and female football co ordinator said.
“The girls should really be playing again in the U14s and 15s but after winning last year, we decided to register them to play in the U16s and U17s this year to give them that extra experience boost but they have still remained on top; it’s absolutely an amazing team effort.”
Houda says it warms her heart to think about all the girls yet to come, hoping they too will blossom, gain confidence and build self-esteem both on and off the field.
“At Bankstown Sports Stars, each and every one of them is like a daughter to me,” she said.
“I can’t wait to continue walking this incredible journey with all of them.”
With the fame of Bankstown Sports Stars FC and other locals clubs spreading, State MP for East Hills, Kylie Wilkinson, has featured their efforts in a ‘Community Recognition Statement’ in Parliament.
“I stood on the floor of Parliament to recognise Bankstown District Amateur Football Association’s great contribution to female participation rates in soccer within my electorate of East Hills,” she said.
“Bankstown District Amateur Football Association do great initiatives for our community and sport.”
