Popular police officers retire after long efforts

AUBURN Police farewelled two of the force’s long serving officers, with a combined experience of almost 70 years.

Sergeant Brendan Donnellan and Senior Constable Paul Doyon served 34 years and 33.5 years respectively, and were farewelled by their colleagues and friends at Auburn Police Station earlier this month.
Both graduated from the NSW Police Academy in Goulburn in 1989 as trainees and performed a variety of duties during their service throughout the Sydney metropolitan area.
Sgt Donnellan, who was relieving Inspector with the Holroyd Command between 2002 and 2006, has been the Police Custody Sergeant at the Silverwater Correctional Centre for almost 15 years, and also as a member of the Police Media Unit he kept the public informed during the Ivan Milat backpacker murders, Ash Wednesday fires and the murder of Cabramatta MP, John Newman.
Snr Cnst Doyon, who was Education Officer Auburn for almost six years, was a Weapon’s Instructor for nine years, was involved in the training and development of officers across the force and awarded the “Our Job, Our Pride” Award for exceptional service and Pride in his work.
“Both officers are highly valued and experienced officers who will be greatly missed,” a spokesperson said.
