Popular Op Shop plans to re-open

THE site of the former Revesby BEHHA Op Shop is being given a fresh lease of life thanks to 18 of the original volunteers who couldn’t bear to farewell “their family” and local residents.

Now rebranded as Revesby Community Op Shop or RECOS, the shop is being repainted and repaired with new lighting in the hope of an early October re-opening.
Volunteer Judy Camac said one of the challenges had been organising new stock and equipment after getting rid of everything for the closure and that’s why they had set up a gofundme page to get some community support to help them on their mission.
“We’ve already noticed lots of small donations trickling in and it’s just so heartwarming that local residents feel the same way we do about the shop,” she said.
“Yes, the rent has gone up on the shop which was a reason for its closure but rents have gone up everywhere so we’re hoping we’ll get enough support from the public and shoppers to keep going; once operational we hope to be self-sufficient and able to support local groups.
“It’s such a nice community here in Revesby and we want to continue to provide a vital role for those doing it tough as well as offer an inclusive, welcoming space; if you have any donations, hang onto them and we’ll start collecting them ahead of our grand re-opening just as soon as we have the keys.”
