She didn’t arrive in time for the session, according to PCYC Auburn manager James Frecklington, but staff and members were chuffed to meet her and hear her wise words.
From humble beginnings in a disused police lock-up to 66 clubs across the State, PCYC NSW has grown to be one of the largest youth charities in Australia.
PCYC NSW CEO Dominic Teakle says PCYC’s services are more relevant than ever as young people continue to struggle to cope, particular after Covid restrictions.
“In 1937, Commissioner McKay saw the need to provide safe spaces for young people, providing an alternative to the streets and a place to thrive,” he said.
“In 2022, we remain true to our core mission and values and work hard in partnership with NSW Police to provide critical support services to empower all young people.”
Opening in 2016, PCYC Auburn offers a range of youth and family services including school holiday activities – with places still available for next week, gymnastics, basketball, indoor soccer, dance and boxing.
“We recently entered into a partnership with Bunnings Lidcombe who provided us with 50 chairs for our youth programs in our upstairs facility,” James said.
“It will make a big difference and we are very grateful for their support.”
