Poetry Slam magic at Opera House an opportunity to support Lebanon

BANKSTOWN Poetry Slam is presenting an evening of poetic storytelling and music ‘Voices of Lebanon’ to celebrate World Poetry Day on Monday.

Featuring 20 passionate Lebanese-Australian artists including Bilal Hafda, Sara Saleh, Omar Sakr, Maissa Alameddine and MC’d by Slam Co-founder Sara Mansour, this one-time event is not to be missed.
Ms Mansour said she was excited to be showcasing these important Lebanese Australian voices for an evening of epic poetic storytelling and music.
“Artists are always on the front lines in respect of social issues and this is no exception,” she said.
“As Kahil Gibran said, ‘Let me tell you who are the children of my Lebanon … they are the poets who pour their souls in new cups’ and we encourage all to come along and enjoy a magical and moving evening with these talented ‘souls’.
“The crisis in Lebanon right now needs global attention because its impacts are devastating to the people living there and the Lebanese diaspora.”
The venue is accessible and wheelchair friendly as well as being suitable for all ages.
All proceeds from the ‘Voices of Lebanon’ fundraising evening will go towards the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees’ (UNHCR) efforts in Lebanon to support people in need there as the present crisis gripping the country worsens, as well as displaced Lebanese.
Tickets, $100, are available for the Sydney Opera House event on Monday, March 21, from 6.30pm at sydneyoperahouse.com.
