Plant over 1,200 trees for greener future

ALMOST 50 volunteers came together at Carnarvon Golf Course on Friday to plant more 1,200 trees and shrubs to increase canopy cover and habitat for native wildlife.

It was part of the Creating Canopies project, which is led by Greater Sydney Landcare Network (GSLN) in partnership with Landcare NSW and provides landowners with a coordinator to help with planning and expertise, tubestock and associated planting materials, as well as creating and promoting the volunteer tree planting event that connects communities with the site and promotes a sense of stewardship and pride for that community.
A band of volunteers from the golf club were assisted by Auburn MP Lynda Voltz, Cr Glenn Elmore, and NSW Bush Carers, in collaboration with the Greater Sydney Landcare Network, Parramatta River Catchment Group, and The Habitat Network.
“The golf club do a fantastic job with the course, looking after the local environment and there were also a large number of local and corporate volunteers today getting through all the work,” Ms Voltz said.
