Plant hundreds of trees as part of ‘Creating Canopies’

HUNDREDS of trees have been planted along Carnarvon Golf Course with many more to come as part of the Creating Canopies project.

The project, led by Greater Sydney Landcare Network (GSLN) in partnership with Landcare NSW, began in June 2020 and will come to an end in October this year, after which time 100,000 trees and tall shrubs will have been planted across Greater Sydney.
Almost 500 trees and shrubs have already been planted at Carnarvon with another 800 in the next few months – increasing the canopy cover across the course and habitat for native wildlife.
Earlier this month, members from Carnarvon Golf Club, Auburn MP Lynda Voltz, Oatley Flora and Fauna and the community came together at the golf course to spend the day planting and learning about the benefits of increasing the number trees and shrubs in an urban environment.
Carnarvon Golf Club director Catherine Tucker said water management, conservation and environmental sustainability along with the enjoyment of golf, were the core values of the club and the new trees and shrubs would go a long way to helping the club achieve its goals.
