Dad Nader says the 10-year-old was also awarded the prestigious Jackson Pascoe Memorial Trophy at the 2022 AusCycling Junior U9 – U13 Track State NSW Championships, an award presented to the most outstanding rider.
“Peter was very thrilled with that since his hero, Australian track cyclist world champion medal winner Thomas Cornish, was a previous recipient,” Nader said.
Another hero, big brother Daniel, 19, loves the thrills of BMX riding but is also a crack track cyclist combining both his loves to race in previous years among the top juniors in NSW and Australia but now races at elite level and competes against the Olympic squad.
He hopes to represent Australia in both events at the world titles and Olympics.
Nader believes both his boys have what it takes to represent Australia.
“Daniel has worked very hard, as does Peter, but we will have to see whether they can keep up the commitment,” he said.
“Peter also loves soccer, gaming, arts and craft but is certainly a very fast, gifted cyclist.”
Training several days a week at Dunc Gray Velodrome and racing on weekends, Peter next takes on the State’s best at Dooleys Metro in July after finishing second overall, despite having a crash, in last month’s Junior Tour race at Port Macquarie.
“We’ve raced everywhere, from the Northern Territory and Western Australia to Queensland and Victoria,” Nader said.
“It’s all experience and so long as it makes them happy, we’ll keep competing.”
‘Pistol Pete’ wins trophy and is on track to be leading young cyclist in nation
THEY call him ‘Pistol Pete’ and that’s because the NSW Track State Champion for U11s, Bankstown Sports Cycling Club’s Peter Samuel, does everything “at 100 miles an hour”.
