Picks up gold at Oceania Games

EARLWOOD’S Charlie Kazzi, 17, has won gold at the 2023 Oceania Youth Boxing Championship Games in Samoa.

Fighting in the 67kg welterweight division last weekend, Charlie had the toughest draw on the Australian team due to the highest rate of fighters from the Oceania countries competing in the same category, according to Dad and coach Peter Kazzi.
“Charlie made the quarter finals to defeat the French Polynesian Champion, progressing to the semi finals to defeat the Fijian Champion and then made it to the finals to defeat the New Zealand champion,” Peter said.
“Overall It was a great performance and experience for Charlie, a real confidence booster, and will open the door to plenty of other opportunities.
“Theo from Dynamite Electrical and Kingsgrove RSL CEO Ian Todd and the directors have been by Charlie’s side through this boxing journey and without their support this would not have been possible.
“Charlie is also thankful to have had four-time world boxing champion Jeff Fenech assisting him in his development over the years.”
Charlie has his hopes set on the 2024 Paris Olympic Games and will be qualifying for them during the next six months.
He says everything starts with a dream.
“Dream it, believe it and achieve it, with the slightest thought of doubt always remove the letter T from I can’t,” Charlie said.
