Perfect plates wow NRL star

HE was the first player in NRL history to make over 12,000 tackles and now rugby league legend Nathan Hindmarsh is tackling a new role as a food critic in the ClubsNSW Perfect Plate Awards.

Roaming around the State sampling the best food on offer at local clubs, Nathan swung into Bankstown Sports last week to sample Chef John Intong’s Penne Pollo Toscano at La Piazza and Chef Daniel Tran’s Humpty Doo Barramundi from Greenfield Station Bistro.
Winner of the Perfect Plate 2023 Large Club State Award, Daniel has also entered the dessert category this year with ‘The Autumn’, a buttermilk pannacotta with torched Italian meringue and chocolate soil.
A self-confessed foodie, Nathan said after being a Perfect Plate Ambassador for a few years now, he really looked forward to this time of the year.
“I’m more of schnitty and chips kind of guy but I love trying dishes I haven’t had before,” he said.
“This has been such an eye-opener; clubs have come such a long way, providing such top-end meals but at club prices.
“The pasta at Bankstown Sports is out of this world and I’ve thoroughly enjoyed the barramundi, just so light and delicate and eating fish off a club menu is something I never thought I would do.”
As the last dish to sample was produced, Nathan’s eyes lit up when he saw the colourful dessert.
“Words can’t describe how good it is,” he said.
“Absolutely awesome, even the chocolate soil is great on its own, but the pannacotta and crispy meringue, it’s just so bloody beautiful.”
With the competition’s aim to unveil hidden talent across NSW, clubs across the State are pushing for those final votes which need to be in by Sunday, June 16.
Visitors are urged to visit Bankstown Sports, Canterbury Hurlstone Park RSL, Kingsgrove RSL and Panania Diggers, order their Perfect Plate and give it a score out of five by scanning the eatery’s QR code or filling out a simple paper form.
You can win $100 dining vouchers daily or a ‘Foodie Getaway’ for two worth more than $3,000, the more dishes you vote for, the greater your chances of winning.
