Passionate fire chief Camilleri wins top award

CALLING it a big surprise, Bankstown Fire Station Commander Anthony Camilleri has been announced as the State Winner for Fire Services in the Rotary’s 2020 Emergency Services Community Awards.

“My favourite show as a child was ‘The Littlest Hobo’ about a dog who stumbles across emergences; one day he might save a kid from drowning or rescue someone from a fire and at the end of the show, my skin was always tingling about how he saved the day and then would run off with no accolades,” Anthony said.
“I thought to myself, I want to be just like that when I grow up, helping people and just giving myself a pat on the back so to get an award like this really puts me out of my comfort zone because I love what I do but I don’t do it for any recognition.”
Minister for Police and Emergency Services, David Elliott, congratulated Anthony, along with the State’s six other winners.
“It takes a committed person who values their community to put themselves on the frontline when disaster strikes. I want to thank all the winners and finalists for being the people the community turns to when they need help,” Mr Elliott said.
