Parks needed where besties can unleash

DOG owners may not have to travel so far away to go ‘walkies’ with their best friends if Cumberland Councillor Joe Rahme gets his way.

He has called for a council report to identify potential locations and construction costs for new dog parks within existing open space in his Granville Ward.
“The Granville Ward deserves a dog park,” Cr Rahme said.
“Many residents have contacted me about this matter. The most concerning aspect is that many of our residents are having to go to neighbouring wards and LGA’s (local government areas) to be able to utilise dog parks.
“This to me is not really acceptable. As a council we should be offering these services to our residents and their beloved canines.”
Cumberland Council lays claim to several dedicated off-leash parks including Scout Memorial Park, Granville as well as Little Duck Creek Reserve, Guildford; Coleman Park, Berala; Wyatt Park, Lidcombe; Webbs Avenue, Auburn; Hampden Road Reserve, South Wentworthville; Dirrabari Reserve, Pemulwuy; and Gardenia Parade Park, Greystanes.
The report is due back in December this year.
