A VERY busy primary school that provides a great education to not only its students but also parents, Villawood East Public School has chalked up another year of success thanks to its dedicated teachers and successful ‘community hub’ programs.
Supported by Settlement Services International, the aim of the hub is to support the whole family, offering early learning programs, building social networks, providing access to services and creating pathways to education, training and employment.
Courses that have been provided include Cafe and Food handling, Parents as Confident Community members, Keeping Family Safe and Healthy, Floristry, TAFE Make up, First Aid certificate studies, English classes and more.
A school spokesperson said: “Parents have been engaged in learning and investing time in their own skill development.
“Since 2017, parents have completed accredited courses and some have enrolled in further studies in Certificate 111 courses at TAFE.
“Parent presence in the school environment has also increased and parents who were not regularly participating in school events, have started to after undertaking their courses.”
A parent said: “We are so lucky to have a Community Hub at our school.
My friends and family wished they had a hub when and where their kids are attending school.”
