OUT of 19 clubs in the Bankstown District Amateur Football Association (BDAFA), Panania Diggers won four grand finals, Bankstown Sports won three, Greenacre Eagles and Revesby Rovers won two while Padstow Hornets and Georges River Thistles won one each.
In the MPL 1st Grade Game, Padstow Hornets beat Bankstown Sports Strikers 1-0.
It was an end-to-end game with both teams seeing good chances but with no one hitting the back of the net.
The game went into half time at 0-0.
In the second half, Bankstown Sports Strikers had the better of the chances, however, Padstow Hornets Goalkeeper Mitchell Ashley kept his side in the game.
The game saw it’s first goal when Padstow Hornets received a free kick in the 80th minute, giving Padstow a 1-0 lead.
From that point on, they sat back and held off Bankstown Sports’ constant attacks to win 1-0.
Congratulations to Padstow Goalkeeper Ashley for winning the MPL 1st Grade Player of the Grand Final title.
After the season got off to a soggy start with games having to be rescheduled week after week, BDAFA General Manager Leanne Millar said that in true Bankstown spirit, all the clubs and volunteers banded together to deliver a full season.
“The board would like to thank all clubs, parents, players and volunteers for a fantastic season,” she said.
“BDAFA was one of the few associations to have a full season and would like to thank the clubs for their collaborative efforts to get the season completed.
“We hope all involved have a good break and we are excited and looking forward to everyone’s return in 2023.”
There will also be a 10-week summer season, starting in October at Kinch Reserve, Condell Park.
All participants, including adults, will receive a free Umbro kit as part of their registration which includes a shirt, shorts and socks.
