Club treasurer Clay White says registrations have been so amazing already – since they will be taking them up to the first couple of weeks of the season which starts after Easter in April – that this year they will be fielding a girls only U6 team (they normally play in mixed tag teams until U12s), girls teams in every age group over 12 and even a men’s senior A grade team which they didn’t have last season.
With an upgraded girls kit on offer, White says they are also pushing hard for female facilities at their grounds in McCredie Park, Guildford.
“We’ve got so many girls playing now that it makes sense to accommodate them as best we can,” he said.
But for now, he is hoping all females take advantage of the All Girls Clinic on offer on Saturday, February 11, with a female NRL trainer as well as a Parramatta NRWL players come along to share their secrets to success.
“It’s actually a fantastic opportunity for all girls to come along, learn the basics and give rugby league a go,” White said.
“My daughter plays netball but she is coming along to try it out.”
With training on Tuesdays and Thursdays starting soon, White is also gearing up for their March 11 Trial Day where 16 games will be played over 13 hours.
“It’s going to be an epic day and an epic season, we can see that already and I encourage anyone who is interested, to sign up at Guildford Owls or get along to a training day,” he said.
