For many of the girls it was their first time kicking a ball around and Club President Noel Dona is certain it won’t be their last.
“The Matildas’ spirit is still very much alive with these girls having dreams of becoming the next Sam Kerr or Mary Fowler,” he said.
“The enthusiasm on display among the girls was fantastic.
“They had so much fun, learning skills, developing confidence and preparing themselves to play team soccer next year.”
Dona said interest in female football – from Miniroos to All Age Ladies – was sky-rocketing. “Kerr and the Matildas have awoken a sleeping giant,” he said.
In recent years, the Waratahs made a conscious decision to grow their female football program and since the Women’s World Cup, inquiries haven’t stopped.
Dona said they expected to have multiple all female teams next year and welcomed the growth and excitement.
“This one-day holiday clinic was great but our summer skills clinics looks like they will be very very busy too,” he said.
“Next year’s season can’t come soon enough.”
The first Waratah Summer Skills Clinic is an eight-week course kicking off on Wednesday, October 11.
