The Parish, led by priest Dariusz Basiaga in Revesby, drew over 1,000 visitors, including Archbishop Anthony Fisher OP, for last Sunday’s Feast Day Mass commemorating the unveiling of statues dedicated to St Luke and Lebanon’s St Charbel.
The church also welcomed a first-class relic of the beloved Maronite saint, a project sparked by Fr Dariusz and supported by local parishioner Rita Torbay.
To secure the relic, the mother of four travelled to Lebanon during the July school holidays, when, with assistance from her husband’s uncle, an abbot, she submitted a letter of request. Just before returning home, she received a phone call confirming the relic’s approval.
During the Mass, Archbishop Fisher emphasised the inspirational faith of St Charbel and highlighted the saint’s role as a shepherd to Catholics worldwide.
Following the Mass, he blessed both the relic and the new statues.
Fr Dariusz said unity was crucial for the Catholic community, here and around the globe.
“We must unite and St Charbel exemplifies this unity,” Fr Dariusz said.
