Marking the occasion with a morning tea, Commander Superintendent Danielle Emerton presented awards to two officers – Sergeant Vicky Vitetzakis who received a Commissioner’s Emergency Commendation for service during the recent bushfires, floods and Covid response and a 2nd Clasp (representing years of service) and Detective Senior Constable Peter McLaughlin who also received a Commendation and a 1st Clasp.
Supt Emerton also welcomed three new probationary constables – Maria Le, Brendan Jones and Amin Boumelhem.
She said the International Women’s Day #BreakTheBias Selfie Cards were designed to show support and encourage others to help forge women’s equality.
“Police Commissioner Webb serves as an inspiration for both female and male police,” Supt Emerton said.
“I am fortunate to have always felt like an equal to my male colleagues throughout my 28 years’ service in the NSWPF.
“I have equal opportunities, I receive equal pay and I have the same chance of promotion as my male counterparts.
“I strive to be the best ‘police’ officer I can be, rather than thinking about being the best police ‘woman’.
“One of my favourite sayings, which I have quoted from Commissioner Webb, is ‘you can’t be what you can’t see’ and having Ma’am Webb in the Commissioner’s role serves as a wonderful role model and inspiration for all.”
Out in force for ‘International Women’s Day’
INTERNATIONAL Women’s Day celebrations at the Auburn Police Area Command were extra special this year following the appointment of the first female Police Commissioner Karen Webb last month.
