Opals add extra shine ahead of Women’s Asia Cup on this week

ADDING some last-minute polish, the Opals were training at Cumberland Basketball Centre – home of the Parramatta Wildcats – ahead of taking to the court this week in the FIBA Women’s Asia Cup until this Sunday at the Quaycentre at Sydney Olympic Park.
With Australia hosting for the first time, the Asia Cup will not only crown the champions of Asia and the Oceania, but will also qualify four teams for the 2024 Women’s Olympic Qualifying Tournaments.
Following their successful bronze-medal-winning performance at the World Cup last year in Sydney, the Opals look forward to taking on the best teams in Asia including Japan, the Philippines and Chinese Taipei.
Meanwhile, fans will also have the chance to witness the No.2 ranked team in the world – China – as they return to Aussie shores, with a tantalising match-up expected if they were to meet the Opals in the finals.
The FIBA Women’s Asia Cup 2023 Division B will be held later from August 13 to 19 August 2023 in Bangkok, Thailand.
Cumberland Basketball Centre General Manager Dawn Burke said the Opals appreciated the community support shown by the Parramatta Wildcats in Auburn.

“They were delighted with the facility and its hospitality and felt very comfortable in our space,” she said.
