Its aim is to meet the needs of locals by not only offering bargains on clothes and homewares, but also providing access to a community pantry and Anglicare’s financial support services.
The op shop shares a combined space with the Bankstown Anglicare Financial Wellbeing Hub, where financial counsellors can provide locals with immediate practical assistance and longer term solutions for their financial future.
Brenda Johns-Manning, Anglicare Community Services Project Manager, says it also features an in-store community pantry, where shoppers can purchase a bag of pantry staples and essential items for $12.
“We want our op shop to welcome everyone and provide them with products and services that aim to support the local community and meet their needs,” she said.
“We have been looking for an opportunity to open a joint service hub in Bankstown for some time, and when the opportunity arose for a space where we could genuinely offer a mix of services to the community, we took it.”
Anglicare also works closely with other community services in the area and local churches to extend the access and level of care available.
“Anglicare op shops seek to provide more than a retail experience; we want to welcome in and support the Bankstown community in any way we can,” Stephanie Seers de Vasquez, Anglicare Op Shops Regional Manager North, said.
