Only dad, son Elvis show in world

THERE will be plenty of hip swivelling, blue suede shoes and a pretty woman when ‘Presley and Orbison The Concert’ lights up the stage at Bryan Brown Theatre next month.

The first part of the tribute showcases the only father and son Elvis act in the world with Paul Fenech, 52, as Elvis in his Aloha From Hawaii days and Anthony Fenech, 25, as a young Elvis in the 1955 Sun studios.
A two-time winner of the Internationally endorsed Ultimate Elvis competition held in Memphis each year, Paul’s interpretation of Elvis Is passionate, dynamic and touching but he says it’s his son who really steals the show.
“Musicians rarely perform Elvis from the 50s as most can’t resist the sparkly white jumpsuit era and that is why our show is so unique,” he said.
“Anthony would come with me to all the Elvis festivals in Parkes when he was growing up and we also had Elvis Pizzas in Rushcutters Bay where I would perform and he would get up as a child alongside me.
“It just grew from there; he has mastered the young Elvis down to a tee. I guarantee it will give you goosebumps as he’s definitely got the ‘wow’ factor.
“During his last song ‘Don’t Be Cruel’, the lights dim and I step out as the middle-aged Elvis and continue on with the song, completing the transition; the audience is in for a fantastic trip down memory lane.”
Following intermission, Aaron Mansfield performs as Roy Orbison and is vocally the closest to the Big ‘O’ in the world thanks to his stunning octave range and powerful, distinctive voice, according to Paul.
“The three of us then come together for the last few songs,” he said.
Catch the show on February 26 from 8pm. Tickets: $45, bryanbrowntheatre.com.au or 9707 9404.
