Online workshops supporting volunteers

MORE than 100 volunteers are now better equipped to help their organisations deal with Covid-19.

Thanks to funding through the Cumberland City Council’s community grants program, non-profit organisation House to Grow produced online workshops from January 2020 to February 2021, to promote intercultural understanding, self-awareness, self-regulation and capacity-building among 109 volunteers from 21 organisations.
It was one of the many projects to receive funding through the community grants program, which open for applications in September.
House to Grow is a not-for-profit organisation that helps vulnerable children and women affected by domestic violence, and also provides educational programs.
“We are grateful we had the support of Cumberland City Council to be able to develop and facilitate this online educational workshop which aims to serve the community,” Managing Director for House to Grow, Pilar Lopez, said.
“We’re glad the program arrived at the right time as it’s been an enormous support for volunteers and their organisations during the Covid-19 pandemic.”
Mayor Steve Christou said the community grants supported groups and individuals to develop a more vibrant, sustainable and inclusive community.
“It’s great to be able to provide funding to organisations which help volunteers combat the challenges this pandemic poses,” he said.
“Our volunteers are the cornerstone of our community and play an integral role in communicating and supporting our diverse demographic.”
Applications for community grants will be open September 1-30.
