Part of the Paint Bankstown REaD project, the week aims to develop early literacy in children before they get to school.
Children were treated to lots of wonderful craft activities, story telling, singing, play activities with early literacy mascot Bongo, giveaways and community information.
Community Development Officer Anna Certoma said the week was an ideal opportunity to promote talking to, playing with and reading to children from birth.
“Reading helps your child get to know sounds, words and language, and develop early literacy skills,” she said.
“This, in turn, sparks your child’s imagination and stimulates their curiosity, helping to develop your child’s brain, ability to focus, concentration, social skills and communication skills.”
If anyone has children’s books (suitable for 0-5 years) they would like to donate to Paint Bankstown REaD, they can contact Anna, 9796 2930 or cdo@bcrg.org.au.
