One of last great real estate pioneers to be farewelled

THE community is mourning the loss of one of Bankstown’s last great real estate pioneers – Helmuth (Hal) Niemeyer – who passed away aged 88 on Friday.

Starting his career in 1969 selling residential lots, Hal decided to specialise in commercial and industrial real estate establishing Raine & Horne Commercial Bankstown in 1985.
In 1993, he joined the First National Network before deciding in 2002 to become independent and trade as Niemeyer Commercial Industrial Property.
Hal continued to oversee the day to day operations of the Revesby business before semi-retiring a couple of years ago.
A longtime Rotarian for over five decades, he received the Paul Harris Fellow Award – Rotary’s highest honour – and spent years fundraising and working on many projects to benefit the community.
It was during this time that Torch Publishing Chairman John Engisch got to know and admire him as a Rotary colleague.
“He was an extremely hard worker, always full of great ideas and hugely respected,” Mr Engisch said.
“I remember him telling us about himself in Rotary meetings; how he’d migrated from Germany to Condell Park as a 21-year-old, moved back to Germany where he met wife Sigrid and had a daughter before deciding Australia was the best country in the world and returning here for good.
“He was a wonderful man and will be greatly missed.”
Following him into the real estate business, son Mark said Hal was devoted to his family and helped launch thousands of real estate careers.
“That’s really his legacy, he loved teaching people about the industry; he loved his job and work was his hobby.”
Father of Susanne and Mark and grandfather of six girls, Hal will be farewelled this Friday, September 15, at 1pm at South Chapel Woronora Memorial Park, Sutherland, with a wake to follow at Cronulla Surf Life Saving Club.
