Ambush murder witness appeal

A MAN was shot dead while another wounded in the “ambush” at Merrylands, drove a few streets away before stumbling to the sidewalk where he collapsed.

Last Thursday about 11.50pm, emergency services were called to the intersection of Pitt and Neil Streets, Merrylands, where they found the 39-year-old man with a gunshot wound to his buttocks.
Police said the man flagged down a driver for help before collapsing. He was treated by paramedics before being taken to hospital in a stable condition.
A short time later, the body of a 40-year-old man was located near the intersection of Fox and Robert Streets, Holroyd.
Two crime scenes were established, which were be examined by specialist forensic police, and a search of the surrounding area was conducted.
Detective Superintendent Danny Doherty has appealed for anyone who may have seen anything – or have CCTV or dashcam footage – to come forward.
He said both men were well known to police but it was not believed to be linked to recent gangland shootings in the area.
“There would have been lot of noise, a lot of yelling and shots being fired,” he said.
“There might be people who would have heard things.
“It’s Important we get information to help solve this crime.”
The shooting is being investigated by the State Crime Command’s Homicide Squad under Strike Force Severne.
