Omicron cases link to local gym

THERE are 31 cases of Covid’s Omicron variant across the State with several now linked to the Sydney Indoor Climbing Gym in Villawood.

A spokesperson for the centre said it didn’t have to close and was continually cleaning as part of its Covidsafe protocols.
NSW Health is investigating the source of infection of the cluster of Covid-19 cases which include the Climbing Gym, Regents Park Christian School, and St Peter Chanel Catholic Primary School in Regents Park.
Contact tracing and genome sequencing is underway.
To help protect the community, the NSW Government has increased penalties for non-compliance with the isolation, testing and quarantine requirements.
Premier Dominic Perrottet said the measures were a necessary precaution to help keep people safe until more was known about the Omicron variant.
“We are well prepared here in NSW but it is important we take the necessary steps to protect the community and adopt measures that will allow us to learn to live with Covid,” Mr Perrottet said.
“We will continue to make any necessary changes as we receive updated information. Our overriding message, as always, is to continue to get vaccinated. It is still the best way to protect yourself and your family.”
Anyone who was at the Sydney Indoor Climbing Gym in Villawood on Saturday, November 27, between 9am and 4.30pm is considered a close contact and must get tested and isolate for seven days.
