Community members will have the opportunity to hear local research champions and international speakers at the 2021 Health Beyond Research & Innovation Showcase, which is returning in a safe and virtual format from May.
The showcase was postponed in 2020 because of the coronavirus pandemic but it is being staged as a series of online Zoom seminars each month until November this year.
South Western Sydney Local Health District is proud to again partner with the Ingham Institute for Applied Medical Research to host this successful showcase.
District Chief Executive Amanda Larkin said the first seminar on May 19 would have a nursing focus to honour International Nurses Day and the International Day of the Midwife celebrations.
“I am excited we are starting the seminar series with one of the District’s most celebrated nursing researchers Dr Evan Alexandrou, who is the chief investigator of the world’s largest study related to peripheral catheters,’’ Ms Larkin said.
“Dr Alexandrou will be joined by an international speaker, Matthew Ostroff, from St Joseph’s University Hospital New York, who will talk about vascular access in COVID-19 patients.
“The virtual showcase is a wonderful platform to showcase the innovations and breakthroughs that will benefit our community in south western Sydney and around the world.”
It will feature a wide range of topics including pancreatic research in July and Allied Health in October.’
Community members can watch the monthly presentations via Zoom. Anyone who misses a live seminar can tune in later via healthbeyondshowcase.org.au.
“I have no doubt everyone in the community will be impressed by the talented researchers and speakers who will be presenting their work and highlighting the cutting-edge research under way across south western Sydney,’’ Ms Larkin.
“I encourage people of all ages and interests to tune in and be part of this popular seminar series.’’
