Nourishing bowl of hot soup to help kickstart winter’s day

CLASSIC comfort food, a warm bowl of soup is extremely soothing when the weather turns chilly.
If you’re struggling with the cold, the trick to warming up fingers and toes might be in a bowl of soup since, according to nutritionists, hot soup can increase your body temperature to warm you from the inside out.

This may be one of the reasons why Berala Kebab House owners Nev and Jason Aslan have customers lining up from when they open their doors at 6am, seven days a week.
“We have a great relationship with our customers who can’t get enough of our hot Turkish tea and filling breakfast soups, like lentil, chicken and lamb with homemade bread, to kickstart their day,” Nev said.
“The mushroom and chicken pies are also very popular at this time of year as the days become cooler.
“We’ve just introduced a cheese and egg pie, spinach, mince and onion pie and cheese and spinach pie – all for just $5 – since we are definitely now in ‘pie’ weather.”
Offering a 10 per cent discount on group orders to nursing homes, Nev says their older fans love traditional fish and chips for lunch as well as the gozleme made fresh daily.
He says their popular shish kebabs are not only the highest quality but the most affordable.
“Our customers tell us they are the best in Sydney,” he said.
With the hearty breakfast menu extremely popular, their range of dips includes hummus, baba ganoush, beetroot, garlic, chilli yogurt and Tzatziki.
Also on the menu are plenty of succulent charcoal chicken dishes, delicious burgers, pizzas with free garlic bread, Turkish pides and homemade baklava.
“We are so proud of the fact that our prices have hardly changed in the last five years and our customers really appreciate it too,” Nev said.
