Training now for about 18 months after being inspired watching the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, he was drawn to the sport by the fact it is based on weight categories.
The De La Salle College Revesby student, 16, stands at 178cm tall and in his last competition earlier this month, he weighed in at 50.74kg.
He lifts in the M55kg class (males, under 55kg) and in weightlifting, there are two lifts competitors must take part in – the ’Snatch’ and the ‘Clean and Jerk’.
Noah’s Dad Mark said he had lifted at three competitions between December and August. “In December, he weighed in at 49.78kg and lifted a total of 80kg (combining his best snatch lift and his clean and jerk lift),” Mark said.
“At his last competition, he weighed in at 50.78kg and lifted a new total of 102kg, a 22kg increase in just nine months.”
Noah has managed to gain new personal bests at both competitions and within 12 months, hopes to qualify for the Australian Weightlifting Federation (AWF) Under 15 and Youth Championships in the M55 class – competing against the best lifters from across Australia.
Noah said: “Through hard training and commitment, my goal is to see how far I can go in competitions. I’d love to represent my State and then Australia one day in an international competition.”
