No safety chief now if less than 20 in gym

RESTRICTIONS for gyms have been eased under relaxed Covid-19 safety rules, with safety marshalls only required now if there are more than 20 people in the gym at any one time.

But Revesby YMCA (The Y) can’t imagine being without their safety marshall any time soon as numbers nearly always exceed 20.
“The numbers have been really good lately; we did lose a few during Covid but then everybody wanted to come back and they have,” staffer Emma Bentley said.
“So our covid marshall will be here to stay for the time being.”
Likewise, F45 gym at Condell Park has not benefited from the easing of restrictions regarding covid marshalls.
“It doesn’t really affect us as we are staffed around the clock and always have a covid marshall in attendance,” owner manager Meg Borkowski said.
“We are about 70 per cent back to where we were, though, since we are still limited with the number of members we can have in the gym studio because of the four-square-metre rule.
“We will be operating under capacity so long as that rule is still in place; that’s what we are waiting on but hopefully things will keep improving with the restrictions.”
Anytime Fitness Revesby is in the same boat, with staff on hand to ensure social distancing whenever there are more than 20 participants.
“We are not back to where we were, but any easing of restrictions is good news and it’s great that we are gradually getting better; there’s light at the end of the tunnel,” a staffer said.
Snap Fitness Yagoona, however, is a new, 1,000sqm gym and owner Nathaniel Hammo says they have no issue with the social distancing as they can comfortably accommodate 200.
“Classes usually peak at about 45, though, so there are no safety issues at all here and the fact that we don’t need a covid marshall for less than 20 means we are back to operating 24/7; it’s unreal,” he said.
